Northampton Spencer  4    Desborough Town  0

Tuesday, 15 August 2006

Both sides had kicked off the campaign with impressive opening day victories so a close contest was expected at Kingsthorpe Mill. Spencer had other ideas though and their impressive win took them to the top of the table on goal diference. Desborough played some tidy football but lacked the cutting edge displayed by their hosts. New recruit Zac Nedimovic made it three goals in two matches, twice scoring for the Millers early on to give them a stranglehold on the contest. His opener, a header from a right wing corner, arrived after 14 minutes and six minutes later he doubled Spencer's lead, punishing a goalkeeping error. Matt Collins all but ended the visiting challenge after 50 minutes, controlling the ball, turning and firing home through a crowd of players. Chris Davies wrapped up the victory a minute past the hour, colecting a Nedimovic flick inside his own half and racing down the left before cutting in to score with a dipping shot.
